Meet Drew

“The best departments aren’t defined by their budgets—they’re defined by their people. Leadership, teamwork, and accountability create excellence long before funding ever does.”

Drew’s journey in emergency services began at just 16 years old, volunteering with Search & Rescue and the local Fire Department in 2008. What began as a passion for helping others grew into a lifelong commitment to building stronger, safer, and more capable emergency service organizations across British Columbia.

Over the years, Drew served in nearly every role within the fire service — from Firefighter to Training Officer, Assistant Chief, and ultimately Fire Chief. His leadership has always focused on creating practical, sustainable systems that work for volunteer and composite departments, balancing modern standards with real-world constraints.

As Fire Chief, Drew:

  • Developed and implemented 5-year strategic and capital plans to guide responsible, long-term growth

  • Managed annual budgets exceeding $170,000, ensuring resources were used effectively and transparently

  • Modernized department policies and SOPs to align with NFPA and provincial standards

  • Led progressive, scenario-based training programs to improve operational safety and member confidence

  • Built inter-agency and regional partnerships, strengthening coordination between Fire, SAR, and First Responder organizations

A defining element of Drew’s leadership has been his collaboration with First Nations communities. Through his work with Barriere First Responders (BAFRS), he partnered closely with Simpcw First Nation, training members, developing a mutual-aid agreement, and building a trusted, long-term relationship that enhanced both communities’ emergency readiness. This collaboration continues to stand as a model for cooperative emergency management between rural and Indigenous partners.

In a deliberate effort to broaden his experience and perspective, Drew fast-tracked his move to Vancouver to work full-time as a Primary Care Paramedic. His goal was to experience urban and metro-centre emergency response from the ground level, learning directly from the frontline professionals who keep major systems running. This experience gave him unique insight into what works—and what doesn’t—at every level of emergency service delivery, from volunteer halls to large municipal systems.

Today, Drew continues to combine that hands-on paramedic experience with his role as founder of Rescue Ready Education (RRE) — an organization dedicated to providing high-quality, budget-conscious training for departments that need practical, real-world solutions.

With over 15 years of operational and leadership experience, Drew’s approach to consulting is grounded in authentic leadership, community collaboration, and people-first progress.
